Meet the Co-Founders

Laur Rubino

Laur Rubino is one of the co-founders of Voting Rights Now. They have a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice from the University of Cincinnati. Laur’s concentration and research focus on inequities in the criminal/ juvenile legal system, mass incarceration, voting rights of individuals in the criminal legal system, program evaluation, wrongful convictions,  LGBTQ+ individuals in the legal system, and how the legal system responds to individuals with marginalized intersecting identities. They worked on policy analysis across state-level laws and juvenile court guidelines and community-engaged activism on issues such as social and racial justice, voting rights, and LGBTQ+ rights. They are based in metro Detroit, Michigan.

Alison Farringer

Alison Farringer is one of the co-founders of Voting Rights Now. She is a doctoral candidate in Criminal Justice at the University of Cincinnati and currently works as a policy analyst for a national justice nonprofit. Her research and policy interests are focused on the experiences of people with mental illness and addiction in the corrections system, as well as the implementation of correctional programs and policies. Alison has worked as a practitioner, researcher, and advocate in a variety of clinical and correctional contexts, including court-ordered residential and outpatient drug treatment programs, halfway houses, correctional facilities, as well as children’s and forensic psychiatric hospitals. She is based in Cincinnati, Ohio.
